Climate change threatens reptile diversity in India's Western Ghats
Reptile species richness in the Western Ghats of India decreases as elevation increases, with temperature being the main factor driving this pattern. Lizards and overall reptile richness decline linearly with elevation, while snake and endemic species richness do not show consistent changes. This study suggests that temperature plays a crucial role in shaping reptile diversity along elevational gradients, highlighting the potential impact of climate change on range-restricted species in the region.
