Real occupancy data key to reducing energy bills in school buildings.
The study looked at how accurately computer models predict energy use in schools compared to real energy bills. They focused on two Italian schools and found that using actual occupancy data instead of standard estimates led to more accurate predictions. The school with more students had a bigger difference between predicted and actual energy use, showing that the number of people in a building can greatly affect energy consumption. By using real occupancy data, the researchers were able to get closer to the actual energy bills, suggesting that considering the actual number of occupants and their schedules is important for accurately modeling energy use in buildings.
