Weed-free sorghum fields yield higher, boosting agricultural productivity significantly.
Researchers studied different ways to control weeds in a type of sorghum plant called K12 that can be used for both food and animal feed. They tested herbicides and manual weeding to see which method worked best. They found that using atrazine herbicide before planting and doing one round of hand weeding later on was the most effective at controlling weeds. This method led to higher yields of both grain and plant material compared to other weed control methods. Weeds were found to reduce the yield of the sorghum plant by around 51.4% for grain and 39.4% for plant material.
