Pyruvate Boosts Sperm Motility, Offering Hope for Infertile Couples
The researchers wanted to see how a substance called pyruvate affects the movement of human sperm in a lab setting. They used sperm samples from 14 men and added pyruvate to some of them. They found that adding pyruvate increased the number of sperm that moved forward by 24%, 67%, and 84% after 30, 60, and 120 minutes. The overall number of moving sperm stayed the same, and the number of live sperm didn't change. This shows that pyruvate can make human sperm move more in a lab setting.
