Inefficient wastewater treatment in Algeria poses risk of water pollution.
The study compared two wastewater treatment processes, aerated lagoon and activated sludge, in Ouargla, Algeria. Activated sludge showed better removal rates for pollutants like TSS, BOD5, and COD, meeting WHO standards. Aerated lagoon had lower removal rates and higher pollutant concentrations, posing a risk of eutrophication and algal blooms. Activated sludge was found to be the more efficient process in the region.
