Revolutionary wastewater treatment method outperforms existing plants in nitrogen removal.
Slaughterhouse wastewater in Malaysia contains harmful pollutants. A new reactor called UMSR was tested to clean this water. The UMSR removed 78.28% of total nitrogen, 83.57% of ammonium, 80.59% of organic pollutants, and 25.30% of BOD. This is better than the current treatment plant, which only removed 19.05% of nitrogen, 18.96% of ammonium, 82.55% of organic pollutants, and 9.08% of BOD. The UMSR is effective in treating high COD/TN ratio wastewater.
