The researchers developed a low-cost drainage system called cut-drain to prevent salt buildup in farmlands. They tested this system in Uzbekistan and found that it reduced water in the field by 26% and removed 14 Mg ha−1 of salt. The system effectively moved salt from deeper zones to open drainage, improving salt removal from fields.
