Safer coal mining through innovative roof-cutting technology
The study investigated a method called Gob-side entry retaining by roof cutting (GERRC) for continuous mining in China. They looked at how the roof moves and the ground pressure changes when using this method in coal mines. By analyzing the mining process and field data from a specific coal mine, they figured out how to design and use this GERRC technology effectively. They created a model to understand how the roof behaves when cutting and keeping an entry open during mining. The research found patterns in how the ground above the mine moves during the process. This new information helps make GERRC technology more practical for coal mining.
