Limiting global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius requires cutting emissions from all sectors. Cheaper energy technologies and carbon removal options are changing how we fight climate change. By analyzing different cost scenarios, we found that transport costs impact deep decarbonization, while renewable energy costs are crucial under weak climate policies. Renewable energy is a smart choice for climate action. Economic factors are more important than emissions in shaping our climate strategies as policies get stricter.
