EU's Green Deal Demands Sweeping Sectoral Policies to Slash Emissions Across Industries
This paper talks about how the European Union plans to lower greenhouse gas emissions through specific policies for different sectors like power, industry, buildings, agriculture, and transport. The EU has already reduced emissions by almost a quarter since 1990, but they now aim for bigger reductions. Different sectors have made different progress – power and industry did well, while transport emissions went up. This is mainly because of varying prices on carbon, cost differences, market issues, and policy gaps. To reach the new goals, specific plans for each sector are needed to tackle these challenges effectively.
