The researchers compared single and hybrid constructed wetlands for treating sewage. The hybrid wetland, with water hyacinth, was more effective at removing BOD and COD from wastewater. TSS removal was similar in both wetlands. Using different types of plants may improve removal efficiency. The hybrid wetland achieved 86% BOD removal and 48% COD removal in one day.
