New parametrization accurately predicts shortwave radiation fluxes for Atlantic Ocean.
The researchers used a method called SAIL to study how sunlight reaches the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. They used data from satellites and measurements to create a map of how much sunlight hits the ocean each day. The SAIL method works well when there are fewer clouds in the sky. The researchers found that it's important to know whether direct sunlight or scattered sunlight is more common, especially as clouds change.
