Exploring the Hidden World of Benthic Organisms in Freshwater Ecosystems
Benthic organisms are creatures that live at the bottom of bodies of water like rivers, lakes, and oceans. They can be big (Macrobenthos), small (Meiobenthos), or tiny (Microbenthos). Some eat plants (Phytobenthos), while others eat animals (Zoobenthos). They can live inside the sediment (Endobenthos), on top of it (Epibenthos), or in between (Hyperbenthos).
