Green roofs slash cooling costs, keep Baghdad homes comfortable year-round.
The study looked at how green roofs can make homes in hot areas like Baghdad more energy efficient. They compared a green roof with plant pots to a regular roof. The green roof needed 64% less cooling energy. In summer, the green roof stayed 8°C cooler inside and outside compared to the regular roof. In winter, the green roof had temperatures about 3°C warmer. This shows that green roofs can help save energy and keep homes cooler in hot weather and warmer in cold weather.
