Global public biodiversity investments reach record high, benefiting nature worldwide.
Global public investments in biodiversity have been steadily increasing, reaching an average of $121 billion annually from 2008-2017, which is around 0.19-0.25% of the global GDP. The Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) methodology was used to track these investments, attributing budget lines that indirectly impact biodiversity to a certain percentage. This data, based on a sample of thirty countries, shows not only a rise in total biodiversity investment but also an increase in the proportion of public domestic investment dedicated to biodiversity conservation.
