Revolutionizing groundwater recharge: New model ensures long-term sustainability in India
Groundwater in basaltic terrains in India is running out fast because people are using it up without thinking about how to refill it. This study made a 3D model of the ground under the surface and looked at things like the shape of the land, how many cracks there are, how water flows, and what the ground is made of. They found three types of areas where water can soak back into the ground: some are great for it, some are okay, and some are not good at all. These areas match up with where the water levels go up and down after it rains. This study can help make plans to refill groundwater in other places like this to keep the water balanced.
