Urban expansion in Damaturu, Nigeria leads to significant agricultural land loss.
The study analyzed changes in how land is used in Damaturu, Nigeria, from 1986 to 2017 using satellite images and ground data. The researchers found that over the 31-year period, there was an increase in built-up areas, open spaces, and vegetation, while agricultural land decreased. This shift was mainly due to the town's growth and increased interest in developing built-up areas. The accuracy of the land cover classification was high, showing that the method used was reliable.
