New Maize Hybrids Show Record-Breaking Grain Yield Heterosis!
The researchers wanted to see how well different types of maize plants would grow when they were crossed with each other. They picked ten strong parent plants and made 45 new hybrid plants from them. They grew these plants in a field and measured how much grain they produced. Some of the new plants grew much better than their parents, with one combination showing the best results. This shows that mixing different types of maize plants can lead to better yields.
