Future thinking and self-control key to beating procrastination in high school.
High school students' thinking about the future and their ability to control themselves affect how much they procrastinate. A study with 510 students showed that considering future consequences led to more self-control, which then led to more active procrastination and less passive procrastination. On the other hand, focusing on immediate consequences led to less self-control, resulting in less active procrastination and more passive procrastination. This research helps us understand how students' thoughts about the future impact their procrastination habits.
