Cattle grazing behavior in outskirts of Ouagadougou impacts land diversity.
Cattle in the outskirts of Ouagadougou graze on different types of land depending on the season. During the wet season, they mainly graze on fallows and post-harvest fields, while in the hot dry season, they explore various land types. In the wet season, the grazing areas have a good amount of biomass, mainly from annual grasses and legumes. The total above-ground biomass produced is 575 kg per hectare, with a carrying capacity of 0.084 TLU per hectare. There are over 100 herbaceous and 48 woody species in the grazing areas. To maintain the quality of the grazing areas, it is suggested to reduce the grazing pressure by implementing alternative feeding strategies.
