Deep water fan fringe deposits in a lake or ocean are important for oil and gas reservoirs. Scientists studied rock layers in China to understand how these deposits form. They found different types of sediment layers, like thick and thin beds, made by underwater landslides. The rocks show evidence of strong currents eroding the lake floor. This helps us predict where similar deposits might be found and how they affect reservoirs.
