Extreme halophiles in Jordan's soil may lead to groundbreaking discoveries.
This article explores the types of salt-loving microbes found in the dry areas of Jordan. The researchers collected soil samples from three locations and tested how well the microbes grew in different salt concentrations. They found that the highest number of microbes was at a low salt level, and the number decreased as the salt level increased, except in one location where extremely salt-loving microbes were found. These extreme microbes were able to grow well even in very salty conditions and had unique characteristics like producing colorful pigments. This study suggests that these specialized microbes could lead to important discoveries in the future.
