Optimal fertilizer blend boosts maize yield in drought-prone Eastern Ethiopia.
Selecting the right maize varieties and using the correct amount of fertilizers are crucial for maximizing maize production. A study in eastern Ethiopia found that applying 150 kg of blended NPS fertilizer and 130.5 kg of N fertilizer per hectare to the Baate variety resulted in the highest grain yield of 9.7 t/ha. This combination also led to the highest net benefit of 2,033.4 USD and a marginal rate of return of 3106.9%. Overall, using this specific fertilizer combination with the Baate variety can help farmers achieve higher maize yields in the region.
