Grassland distribution impacts rural livelihoods in South Africa.
Grasslands in South Africa provide important resources like food and medicine. This study looked at how different types of grasslands are affected by factors like soil quality and forestry activities. Grasslands in low, fertile areas have good grass for animals to eat, while grasslands in higher, less fertile areas have diverse plants used for medicine and other purposes. Abandoned forestry plantations have some resources but not as many as natural grasslands. This information can help manage and protect grasslands in Maputaland, South Africa.
