New Tool Calculates Profitability of Reusing Structural Components in Construction
The article discusses how the construction industry in The Netherlands can become more sustainable by reusing structural components from existing buildings. Currently, most buildings are demolished and their materials are recycled or wasted. The researchers developed a Feasibility Calculation Tool to help stakeholders assess if components can be economically reused before demolition. This tool allows for a more circular approach to building end-of-life treatment, where components can be salvaged and sold for reuse, reducing waste and raw material consumption.
