Geospatial Model Predicts Massive Reforestation and Carbon Capture by 2050
Deforestation harms the environment by reducing forests, but reforestation helps by planting new trees. A study used a model to predict deforestation and reforestation in the North Pacific Basin in Mexico for 2030 and 2050. The model showed that the forest area will increase by 2050. The study estimated that 115 km2 of forest will be lost each year from 2014 to 2030, but 193.84 km2 will be planted. From 2030 to 2050, 95 km2 will be lost annually, but 221.31 km2 will be planted. This will help capture carbon, with 16,209.67 tons captured from 2014 to 2030 and 587,596.01 tons from 2030 to 2050.
