New course boosts confidence and safety for students handling livestock species.
The Animal Science Department at Iowa State University created a new course called Animal Handling, Safety, and Well-Being to help students with little to no experience in handling livestock. In this course, students learn how to handle different types of livestock like sheep, swine, poultry, horses, beef cattle, and dairy cattle. By the end of the course, students must show that they have learned how to handle livestock safely. This course helps students feel more confident and safe when working with livestock in their college studies and future careers in animal agriculture.
