Mulching boosts chilli yield by 27%, revolutionizing farming practices.
The study looked at how different types of mulch affect soil temperature, moisture, and yield of chilli plants. They tested five types of mulch: no mulch, rice straw, water hyacinth, black polyethylene, and white polyethylene. Results showed that all mulch treatments increased soil temperature and moisture compared to no mulch. Black polyethylene mulch raised soil temperature the most, while rice straw mulch retained the most moisture. Rice straw mulch also led to the highest yield of green chillies, with a significant increase compared to no mulch. In terms of economic analysis, rice straw mulch had the highest gross return, gross margin, and benefit-cost ratio.
