New Sorghum Hybrids Boost Grain and Biomass Yields Dramatically!
The study aimed to assess the performance of sorghum hybrids for grain and biomass yield. They found that hybrids outperformed open-pollinated parents in most traits. Certain hybrid combinations showed significant heterosis, with some hybrids yielding up to 123.5% more than the check variety. Specific sorghum lines were identified as excellent combiners for biomass and yield traits. Female parent 106 and male parents 94, 102, and 90 were the top performers based on overall performance, heterotic response, and combining ability. These parental lines have potential for improving hybrid and germplasm development in sorghum.
