Heavily polluted river in China cleaned up, restoring ecological and human health
The study looked at a heavily polluted river in the upper Hai River to understand changes in water pollution. They used a water quality index and statistical techniques to analyze pollution sources. From 1991 to 2009, the river was very polluted, but it improved after 2010. Different sources like sewage, industrial waste, and agriculture contributed to pollution. In recent years, the water quality has gotten better due to less pollution from both point and nonpoint sources.
