New Study Finds Kaolin-Bentonite Mix Reduces Toxic Leakage in Landfills
Landfill liners made of bentonite clay are crucial for preventing toxic substances from seeping into groundwater. This study looked at different ratios of kaolin and bentonite to see how they affect the liners' ability to block water flow. The results showed that mixtures with at least 20% bentonite had lower water permeability than pure kaolin. This means that adding bentonite to kaolin can improve the effectiveness of landfill liners in preventing contamination.
