The article presents a new method using computer vision to detect when people are in a room and using equipment, which can help save energy in buildings. By using a special type of artificial intelligence called deep learning, a camera can see and understand what people are doing in real-time. Tests in an office showed the method was accurate most of the time. When compared to traditional methods, the new approach predicted energy savings better. This means that by using this technology, buildings can adjust their heating and cooling systems more efficiently based on actual occupancy and equipment use, leading to significant energy savings.
