High stocking density of spotted snakehead boosts fish production in ponds.
The study looked at how different numbers of spotted snakehead fish in a pond affect water quality, food production, and growth of other fish. They tested different densities of snakehead fish along with rohu, silver carp, catla, and mrigal. They found that water quality changed with the number of fish, and zooplankton and benthos decreased as more snakehead fish were added. The growth rate of the other fish was not affected by the snakehead fish. The best production of snakehead fish was seen at a medium density, while the total production of all fish was highest at a lower density of snakehead fish. Overall, having the right balance of fish in the pond led to the best results in terms of food utilization and total yield.
