Wetland loss threatens water quality and climate stability in Ningxia, China.
Wetlands along the Yellow River in Ningxia, China have changed over time due to human activities and natural conditions. Using satellite images, researchers found that the wetland area initially increased, then decreased from 2000 to 2018. Wetlands were converted to construction and unused land, while new wetlands formed from unused land, forests, and grasslands. The landscape became more fragmented, diverse, and less dominated by specific types. Factors like population, precipitation, and temperature influenced these changes.
