Paper Summary

The SARS-CoV2 virus, which causes COVID-19, is closely related to the SARS-CoV virus that caused the SARS outbreak in 2002-2003. The genetic analysis showed that SARS-CoV2 likely originated from a strain isolated in China in 2020. The virus has evolved over time, possibly passing from humans to bats and pangolins before spreading back to humans in crowded markets. This study suggests that coronaviruses can adapt and change as they circulate in human hosts, responding to different environments and stimuli.
