Traditional pastoral practices in Ethiopia lead to land degradation crisis.
A study in South-east Ethiopia looked at how local herders use and manage grazing lands. They found that herders use traditional methods like free grazing, enclosures, and migration. Most herders think their lands are in poor condition, with more bushes and shrubs than before. The main challenges are lack of food and water, with migration being the main solution. To improve the lands, everyone involved needs to work together and reduce the number of livestock.
