Boosting Rice and Sugarcane Yields with Sustainable Phosphorus Management
A study was conducted on rice and sugarcane crops to see how different treatments affected their growth and yield. Using pressmud biocompost on rice led to higher grain yield and phosphorus uptake. Applying the compost to sugarcane before also increased cane weight and yield. Adding the recommended amount of phosphorus to sugarcane without an intercrop resulted in higher cane yield. But when an intercrop of greengram was added, the sugarcane equivalent yield and soil phosphorus levels were even higher. Overall, using pressmud biocompost and proper phosphorus management can improve crop yields and soil health in rice-sugarcane cropping systems.
