New blackgram genotype boosts maize productivity and profits in intercropping.
The researchers studied how different types of blackgram plants and levels of nitrogen affected the growth and profits of a maize and blackgram crop system. They tested 12 combinations of blackgram genotypes and nitrogen levels in a field experiment. The results showed that using the 'Himachal Mash 1' blackgram genotype with 100% recommended nitrogen led to the highest maize yield, efficiency, and profits. This combination was more productive and profitable compared to other options tested. Overall, intercropping maize with 'Himachal Mash 1' blackgram and using the right amount of nitrogen proved to be the best choice for farmers in Himachal Pradesh.
