Satellite data predicts devastating wildfires, saving lives and property.
Researchers found that by using satellite data to measure the stress levels of treetops (CSI) based on soil moisture, they could predict the severity of large wildfires in South Korea a week in advance. This method helps differentiate between dry soil areas and those at risk of wildfires. The data collected every 5-7 days is useful for planning firefighting efforts and reducing false alarms in areas prone to wildfires.
