Zinc deficiency prevalent in Nepali children and women, urgent intervention needed.
Zinc deficiency is a common problem in children and women, especially in countries like Nepal where people eat less meat and more cereal. A study looked at data from Nepal in 2016 to see how many children and women had low zinc levels. They found that about 23% of children and 25% of women were deficient in zinc. Factors like living in rural areas, having diarrhea, and low household wealth were linked to zinc deficiency in children. For women, being underweight, having a fever, and having certain infections were associated with low zinc levels. The study suggests that programs focusing on health, nutrition, and livelihoods could help improve zinc levels in Nepal.
