Contaminated wastewater threatens water quality in Nigerian dam.
The researchers evaluated the quality of wastewater from Muhammad Ayuba dam in Kazaure, Nigeria during the harmattan season. They measured various parameters like alkalinity, BOD, COD, conductivity, DO, hardness, pH, and TDS. The results showed that most parameters were within safe limits set by the WHO, except for conductivity which was high after four weeks. This suggests that the dam water is gradually accumulating contaminants from nearby communities. Regular monitoring of these parameters is important to understand the environmental impact and potential risks.
