Reduced tillage boosts wheat yield and profits in conservation agriculture.
The researchers studied how different ways of preparing the soil and managing leftover plant material affect the yield and profits of wheat crops. They tested three types of tillage (how the soil is worked) and five methods of handling crop residue. They found that using reduced tillage and applying 5 tons of crop residue per hectare along with a special mix of organisms led to the highest grain yield. This combination also resulted in the highest profits compared to other methods tested. So, using reduced tillage and adding crop residue can help farmers grow more wheat and make more money.
