The article discusses how Turkish Marxist historiography shifted from focusing on national history to embracing a global culture of socialism. It explores how post-Cold War Marxist historians rejected the Kemalist view of history that dismissed the Ottoman past as hindering progress due to its Islamic influence. Instead, they aimed to free Turks from the burden of their pre-republican history and adopted a more global approach to socialism.
