Daylight-redirecting windows and smart shades could save energy and improve views
Daylighting in buildings can save energy and connect people to the outdoors. By combining window films that redirect light and automated roller shades, a facade can be optimized for energy savings, glare reduction, and outdoor views. The study found that the ratio of film to wall is crucial, with more transparent glass in the top section increasing daylight availability and less transparent glass in the middle section providing better views. A guide was created to help designers balance these factors when creating multi-sectional facades.
