New rice hybrids promise higher yields and superior quality traits.
Researchers created 42 new rice hybrids to find ones with high yield and blast resistance. They studied the traits of these hybrids and found that most showed better yield traits than their parents. Some hybrids also had good quality traits, but not as much as yield traits. 35 hybrids had higher yield than their parents, and 24 hybrids had significantly better yield than expected. The best-performing hybrids involved White Ponni, IR 20, and CO 50 as female parents. Hybrids like White Ponni x Thuyamalli and IR 20 x ADT 39 consistently performed well for yield and its components. These hybrids could be used to develop high-performing rice varieties.
