Food waste reduction potential in traditional markets could transform waste management.
Traditional markets in Kepanjen, Malang District produce different types of solid waste compared to households. A study was conducted to improve solid waste management by analyzing generation, composition, characteristics, collection, and transportation of the waste. Results show an average daily solid waste generation of 2.94 m3, with food waste being the highest component at 28.67%. By using a reduction scenario, solid waste can be decreased by 36.06%. The study suggests using food and vegetable waste for composting and efficient transportation methods to reduce waste effectively.
