Green manure-maize rotation reduces soil phosphorus accumulation, boosts crop production.
Green manure-maize rotation can help reduce phosphorus buildup in organic soil by improving maize's phosphorus uptake. In a 2-year study, planting hairy vetch with maize increased phosphorus absorption, leading to higher grain production. The rotation system also lowered water-soluble phosphorus levels in the soil compared to continuous maize planting. This shows that using green manure with maize can boost phosphorus uptake by the crop and decrease phosphorus accumulation in the soil.
