Iran faces high drought risk in central and western regions.
The goal of the study was to assess the risk of drought in Iran. Researchers used GIS techniques to calculate drought hazard and vulnerability, considering factors like climate, topography, and land use. They found that central, northeast, southeast, and west parts of Iran are at high risk of drought, while the southwest and northwest have lower risk. Climate was identified as the most critical factor in determining drought vulnerability. The study highlights the importance of managing drought risks in different regions of Iran to mitigate the adverse effects on agriculture, water resources, and the environment.
