Farmyard Manure Boosts Sugar Beet Yields and Soil Health Dramatically.
The researchers studied how different types of fertilizers affect sugar beet yields and soil quality over three years with varying weather conditions. They tested ten fertilization treatments and found that using farmyard manure or mineral fertilizers increased beetroot and top yields compared to no fertilizer. The sugar content in the beets was not affected by the fertilizers. Using a combination of farmyard manure and mineral fertilizers improved soil organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium levels. The recommended nitrogen dose for optimal beetroot yield was 112 kg per hectare.
