Open Cerrado in Brazil Boosts Frog Diversity, Revealing Regional Influence.
The study looked at different types of vegetation in southeastern Brazil to see how they affect the diversity of ground-dwelling frogs. They found that open areas had more types of frogs, while forests had more individual frogs, especially a species from the Atlantic Forest. The types of vegetation and the frogs living there were closely related, suggesting that the habitat plays a big role in shaping frog diversity. This pattern of higher frog diversity in open areas matches what is seen in other animals in the Cerrado biome. This suggests that regional factors, like the overall environment, are more important than local factors in determining frog diversity in this area.
